Indian team and Cricket Australia XI pay their tribute to Phil Hughes

Phil Hughes was laid to rest on Wednesday, as his hometown Macksville bid him a teary goodbye. Tributes poured in from all corners of the world, as the funeral was broadcast live to millions of people on national television and on big screens in major Australian cities.

Hughes’ death has led to rescheduling the Tests of India’s tour of Australia, and the practice match that was cancelled last weekend began on Thursday. Players from both side – India and Cricket Australia XI (CA XI), paid their tributes to the left hander prior to the start of the match at Gliderol Stadium in Glenelg in South Australia. The players spent a few silent minutes praying for Hughes’ departed soul and laid out their cricket bats and caps on the ground.

Hughes, who would have turned 26 last Sunday, died on November 27 after being hit by a short ball in a Sheffield Shield match in Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) two days prior.

In what was an emotional game, India started well, bowling out CA XI for 243 and at stumps they were 99 for two, with Murli Vijay and Virat Kohli, both looking steady at the crease.
