When India and Australia were engrossed in another encounter at Canberra, the broadcasters were busy running a campaign called #DREAMXIvAUS. The idea was to pick India’s best ODI XI side to play against Australia post 1985. Plenty of fans around the country participated in it and sent in their entries through tweets. While Star Sports did display the records of Indian players since 1985, they did not show their records strictly against Australia.

Choosing an all-time India ODI XI is a different task than choosing one to play Australia. The likes of Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan, Anil Kumble and few others will walk into any all-time India ODI squads but against Australia it is a different picture altogether.

Taking the records of Indian cricketers against Australia in ODIs post 1985 into consideration, we have picked our India side. One needs to consider that we have compared players from four decades — the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s. Cricket has changed and therefore a strike-rate in the 60s may be perceived as too low but in the 1980s, it was considered pretty high.
