Infographics: Is Ravichandran Ashwin the best spinner across formats?

India’s frontline off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been the spine of Indian bowling attack across formats. On this occasion, he achieved newer heights by being in the top thee wicket-takers since 2010 in every format. Ashwin scalped two wickets in the second T20I and is now the third highest wicket-taker in T20I among spinner since 2010. Ashwin has been in magnificent form in the recent times and has enhanced as an off-spinner. He has enough variations up in his sleeves to trouble a batsman, and could well dominate a batting attack if the surface offers spin.

Ashwin’s rise in Test cricket has been laudable. He is the third highest spinner in Test cricket among spinners since 2010 after Rangana Herath and Nathan Lyon with 193  scalps in 36 matches to his name. He was unplayable in the Indian subcontinent and won matches single-handedly on numerous occasions. His batting too has scaled newer heights and now inspires confidence as a consistent all-rounder in whites.

Ashwin is the second highest wicket-taker in ODIs after Saeed Ajmal. Ashwin have had a good run in the ODIs wih 142 wickets in 102 outings. The third spot has been taken by India’s left-arm spinner, Ravindra Jadeja, who has been in good form off late. Ashwin has also played a decent role in T20Is, and has meant business. In 45 games, Ashwin has 52 wickets to grab the third spot. Ajmal once again leads the T20I chart with teammate Shahid Afridi sitting at the second position.
