‘It happened so quickly…’: Shubman Gill points out India’s weak lower-order batting after loss in Leeds Test

India’s Test captain Shubman Gill admitted the fact that the collapse in the lower-order in both their innings during the first match of the five-match series against England cost them a lot as they faced a 5-wicket defeat by the English team in the series opener.
Even though Centurions Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal contributed heavily, Indian lineup collapsed in the first innings as the score went from 430/3 to just 471 all-out: meaning the team lost 7 wickets for 41 runs. In the second innings, the team went from 333/4 to 364 all-out: implying they lost 6 wickets for 31 runs.
“…Our lower-order didn’t contribute enough, but proud of the team and overall a good effort,” Gill said during the post-match presentation.

“That (lower-order contribution) was something we spoke about. (But) it (collapses) happened so quickly. (It) could be one of those things we have to rectify in the upcoming matches,” he said.
India lost the first Test of the five-match series by 5 wickets. However, they still have a chance to make a comeback and secure the trophy. The second match of the series is going to begin July 2, and will be held in Edgbaston.
