Nepal cricket team’s winning selfie after beating the strong New Zealand side

The ICC Under-19 World Cup is finally underway in Bangladesh. Day two of the premier youth tournament, which is a great platform for the future stars, saw a spirited Nepal team upset the colts of cricket heavyweights New Zealand. Undoubtedly one of the biggest moments in Nepal cricket’s short history so far, the win was captured in a selfie, later tweeted by the ICC.

Batting first, Nepal scored seven for 238 from their stipulated 50 overs. Their captain Raju Rijal top scored with 48, while Sandeep Sunar and Aarif Sheikh scored 39 each. A quick-fire 23-ball 35 by Kushal Bhurtel towards the end compelled the team to a near-240 score, which was a par total on the track.

In reply, New Zealand under-19s could manage only 206, with opener Glenn Phillips scoring the only fifty of the match and Dipendra Singh Airee picking three crucial wickets. This was also the first under-19 appearance of the Nepal team, as the match marked the debut of all eleven of their players. Quite naturally, the players were elated after the win and the selfie captured that essence successfully.
