The above photograph was clicked during the fourth Test of the 1938 Ashes series at Headingly, Leeds.
During the interval, there came the surprising twist when people didn’t witness any 12th man with the drinks. Instead, the ladies stepped to the field with water and served it to players.
England won the toss and chose to bat first and were bowled out for 223 with Bill O’ Reilly picking up 5 for 66. For Australia, legendary Don Bradman smashed a 103, which helped the visitors get a 19 runs lead. England managed only 123 as Australia defeated the hosts and took a 1-0 lead in the series.
Bradman scored a hundred in a Test where there was only two other batsmen who went past fifty in the all the four innings played.
