Indian summer’s cricket carnival began on Saturday with the commencement of the ninth season of Indian Premier League (IPL). The Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) made a spectacular debut with a thumping win over the defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) and set the IPL ball rolling.

Though the RPS side was playing its first-ever IPL game, it had substantial backing thanks to its skipper MS Dhoni, who enjoys massive fan following across the globe. Like many of his fans, a young kid was also present inside the stadium on Saturday and made a very sweet appeal to the India and RPS captain.

He was captured by the camera sitting in the stands and holding a placard which read: “My mom thinks I’m doing my homework. Dhoni, Pls make my punishment worth it (sic).” Well the ‘captain-cool’ did accede to the young kid’s request as his side went past the title-holders in his typical nonchalant manner, winning the match by 9 wickets. With his favourite team winning the match, hopefully the little fan succeeded too — in escaping the punishment that is!
