This photograph dates back to the 1975 final of the World Cup at Lord’s where Australia and West Indies locked horns on the big occasion.

The grand finale shaped well with Australia winning the toss and choosing to field first. Roy Fredericks and Gordon Greenidge opened the innings for West Indies with the dangerous Dennis Lillee starting the proceedings for Australia.

With just 12 runs on the board, Fredricks hooked a bouncer from Lillee over the fine-leg for a maximum, only to lose his balance and fall on the stumps. He was adjudged hit-wicket and it was truly a heartbreak moment, but Fredricks departed for only seven.

At 50 for three, West Indies were on the back-foot when skipper Clive Lloyd played a blinder to rescue them. His 102 off 85 helped West Indies to 291, a match they eventually won by 17 runs to lift cricket’s most coveted trophy for the very first time.
