In December 2004, against Bangladesh in Dhaka, he had equalled Sunil Gavaskar’s record after getting his 34th Test hundred. Surpassing that was a long wait for the Master Blaster.

A year later, Tendulkar became Test cricket’s most prolific century scorer. Against Sri Lanka, at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi, Tendulkar reached his 35th Test hundred as he went past Gavaskar’s tally, which had stood strong for 22 years.

Tendulkar flicked a Chaminda Vaas delivery through the square-leg to reach the special moment. It was more special, because Tendulkar was out of action with an injury for a major part of the year.

His hundred helped in the team’s cause as India went on to win the Test by 188 runs.
