Shubman Gill scores his maiden 150 in Test cricket

Shubman Gill continued his brilliant form in the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy by notching up his second century of the series. After falling short of 150 in the first Test where he scored 147, Gill made sure to go past the mark at Edgbaston. Teaming up with Ravindra Jadeja, he stitched together an unbeaten century stand that put India firmly in control, with the score at 387/5 in the first innings, Gill’s unbeaten 150 became his highest Test score and also saw him break a major record previously held by Virat Kohli.

Gill’s innings is now the highest score by an Indian at Edgbaston, surpassing the previous record of 149 set by Virat Kohli during the 2018 tour. It also stands as the highest score by an Indian captain at the venue. Interestingly, Kohli was leading the side when he played that memorable knock in Birmingham.

Shubman Gill also surpassed Tendulkar’s record

Gill also surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most runs by an Indian captain in an away series at the age of 25. Gill has so far scored an unbeaten 323 runs in the series, going past Tendulkar’s 290-run tally from the 1997 tour of Sri Lanka.

Ravidra Jadeja misses his second century at Edgbaston

Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja played a composed and impressive innings on Day 2, scoring 89 before falling just 11 runs short of what could have been his second century at Edgbaston. Having already scored a ton at this venue, another hundred would have made him the first Indian to register multiple centuries at Edgbaston.

Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal set the tone for a strong total with a blazing knock of 87 off 113 deliveries, providing India with a powerful start. Though he narrowly missed out on a well-earned century, his innings gave India early momentum. For those unaware, India made three changes to the playing XI, bringing in Akash Deep, Washington Sundar, and Nitish Reddy in place of Jasprit Bumrah, Sai Sudharsan, and Shardul Thakur.
