India Test captain Shubman Gill has scored three centuries in the first two Tests. He made 147 runs in the first innings of the Leeds Test, followed by a brilliant 269 in the first innings and 161 in the second innings of the Birmingham Test at Edgbaston. If Gill scores another century in the third Test, he will become the first Indian Test captain to achieve this feat. In 148 years of Test cricket history, only Alastair Cook has done so, he is the only captain to have scored centuries in each of his first five Tests as captain.

Most runs in India vs England Test series
If Shubman Gill scores at least 128 runs in the third Test against England at Lord’s, he will surpass Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record for the most runs by an Indian in a Test series against England. Jaiswal had piled up 712 runs across nine innings during the 2024 home series under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. The overall record for the most runs in an India-England Test series belongs to England’s Graham Gooch, who scored 752 runs in 1990. Gill would need a minimum of 168 runs to break that milestone.

Sunil Gavaskar holds the overall record for scoring the most runs in a Test series as an Indian player. Gavaskar scored a total of 774 runs in eight innings against the West Indies in his maiden Test series. Gill has 585 runs after two test matches and he is just 190 runs short to surpass Sunil Gavaskar.

Former India Test captain Kapil Dev and Virat Kohli are the only captains who have won multiple matches in England. Gill can also enter this list if he win the Lord’s Test.
Fourth Indian skipper to register a Test victory at Lord’s
Shubman Gill can also join the elite list of Indian captains who have won a Test match at Lord’s. So far, only Kapil Dev, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli have achieved this feat.
