South Africa defeated England by 5 runs in the 2nd ODI to take a decisive 2-0 lead, sealing their first ODI series win in England since 1998.

SA Create History: By defeating England by 5 runs in the second ODI, South Africa has taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. This is South Africa’s first ODI series win in England since 1998. England had won the three-match ODI series played on English soil in May 1998 by 2-1. South Africa had won the first two matches of that series, after which England saved its honour by winning the last match by seven wickets.
England’s team has once again lost the ODI series against South Africa at home. Now they will have a chance to save their honour by winning the third match of the series. The final match of the series will be held in Southampton on 7 September.
Talking about the second ODI match that ended late Thursday night in London, South Africa lost the toss and came in to bat first and scored 330 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton gave the team a great start. There was a partnership of 73 runs in 13.1 overs between the two batsmen. Rickelton returned to the pavilion after scoring 35 runs in 33 balls.

Captain Temba Bavuma, who came to bat at number three, was out after scoring just four runs. Markram scored 49 runs in 64 balls with the help of one six and six fours. Despite a great start, the South African team could score only 93 runs after losing three wickets in 19 overs.
From here, Matthew Breetzke put the team in a strong position by making a partnership of 147 runs for the fourth wicket with Tristan Stubbs. Breetzke was dismissed after scoring 85 runs in 77 balls. His innings included three sixes and seven fours. Apart from these, Stubbs contributed 58 runs, while Dewald Brevis contributed 42 runs to the team’s account. From the opposition camp, Jofra Archer took the maximum four wickets, while Adil Rashid got two successes. Apart from these, Jacob Bethel took one wicket.
In response, England’s team could only score 325 runs by losing 9 wickets in the stipulated overs. For the host team, Jos Buttler and Joe Root scored 61-61 runs, while Jacob Bethell played an innings of 58 runs, but could not make England win. For South Africa, Nandre Burger took three wickets. Keshav Maharaj got two successes.
