Cricket has often witnessed cricket bats being shattered and broken into two. Some menacing pace from a bowler has managed to crash the willow on numerous occasions and created a stir in the fraternity. And once again a bowler has done so during the third Test of the Basil D’Oliveira Trophy at Johannesburg when Hardus Viljoen broke Moeen Ali’s bat into two.

Photographer Julian Finney captured this picture for Getty Images Ali of England’s bat breaks in half whilst trying to play a shot during day three of the third Test. It’s an awful picture as the willow has been ripped apart. On the fifth delivery of the 61st over, Moeen looked disappointed as a delivery from Viljoen which didn’t have extra pace on it to snap into two eventually did it. Maybe wood worm may have infected his bat which resulted in such mishap.
