Cricket has often witnessed cricket bats being shattered and broken into two. Some menacing pace from a bowler has managed to crash the willow on numerous occasions and created a stir in the fraternity. And once again a bowler has done so during the third Test of the Basil D’Oliveira Trophy at Johannesburg when Hardus Viljoen broke Moeen Ali’s bat into two.

Photographer Julian Finney captured this picture for Getty Images Ali of England’s bat breaks in half whilst trying to play a shot during day three of the third Test. It’s an awful picture as the willow has been ripped apart. On the fifth delivery of the 61st over, Moeen looked disappointed as a delivery from Viljoen which didn’t have extra pace on it to snap into two eventually did it. Maybe wood worm may have infected his bat which resulted in such mishap.

Ali managed to score 19 runs as England scored 323 runs and had a lead of 10 runs to their name. English bowler Stuart Brad have stunned everyone with his alluring spell in the second innings as he chipped in with five key wickets in quick succession and steered England in a commanding position.
