‘Would like to Build a team culture…’:Shubman Gill speaks about building a team where everyone is secure and happy
As Shubman Gill will lead the Indian team during their five-match series against England, Gill has stated that he will aim to create a team where everyone will be secure and happy.

The Indian Test team witnessed a ‘transition’ phase as veteran players R Ashwin, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from the format, and Shubman Gill was appointed as the new red-ball captain. Now, Gill has set a goal for himself that is to create a team where every player is secure and happy.
“It was like, not even in my dreams, I thought I wanted to be the captain of the Indian cricket team. So, apart from all the silverware and trophies aside, I really would like to build a team culture where everyone is very secure and happy,” Gill told Skysports.
Even though Shubman Gill had his eyes on leading the national side, but he knew that the task is going to be much tougher that it sounds.

“I know it can be a very difficult environment, especially with all the competition and the number of matches that we play, different squads coming in. But if I’m able to do that, I think that would be my goal. So, keeping a secure environment and making the player feel secure in his abilities and his capabilities I feel is one of the most important things that a leader has to do,” he said.
Shubman Gill also provided an insight about his conversation with India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar from the time before he took the captaincy role.
“They just want me to be able to express myself as a leader. I mean, that’s what they have told me, there are no expectations. They are not expecting me to, you know, to do something that I’m not capable of. But you definitely have some kind of expectations from yourself as a leader and as a player. So those are the expectations that I have from myself,” he said.
