COMMENTARY

So that's it from us! Mumbai are crowned the Indian T20 League Champions for the 3rd time and it's something they completely deserve. They were probably the most consistent team throughout the tournament and have been declared just winners. The team and its fans, are going to have a long night for sure. They should too! It's been a great season and we hope you enjoyed every bit of it. There will be a lot more matches coming our way, soon enough, so we hope you join us for all the action. Till then, goodbye, fellow humans. Be good and stay safe!
Rohit Sharma says that he was quite nervous but the guys pulled off a great game. Says that he was expecting them to defend as they have a great bunch of players. Mentions that they stuck to their plans. Informs they wanted to make it difficult for the opposition by picking up wickets as they knew the new players would find it difficult to adjust. Feels that having Bumrah and Malinga in the side makes the job easy for the captain. Credits Mitchell Johnson for picking two crucial wickets in the final over and getting the momentum back in their favour. Also praises the spinners' performance throughout the season. Feels that winning this trophy was the toughest and it's special for the way they had to fight for it.
Steven Smith says it's a hard one to swallow. Mentions he is proud of his team since they are a relatively new franchise. Credits Mumbai for the way they fought tonight and feels 130 was probably a little under par but Mumbai bowled extremely well. States they had some wickets in hand and just 1-2 good overs would have pushed them ahead but Mumbai's bowlers did extremely well to restrict them. Feels it's been a fantastic experience to play in the Indian T20 League over the years. Ends by saying it was great fun to captain the side and play some good cricket to get to the finals but he is disappointed not to cross the finish line.
Man of the Match, Krunal Pandya says that he feels blessed to have contributed with the bat in both the knockout games. Adds that as wickets were falling at the other end, he felt of taking on the bowlers in the last couple of overs. Informs that this tournament is all about preparation. Mentions that it's dream come true for him, playing the Indian T20 League final for the first time and getting the Man of the Match award in it. Credits Nitin Patel (Physio), who helped him in getting fit before the knockouts.
David Warner gets the award for being the highest run-scorer (641 runs) of the season while Bhuvneshwar Kumar is awarded for taking the most wickets (26) in the tenth edition of the Indian T20 League. Ben Stokes is awarded the Man of the Tournament for picking up 12 wickets and scoring 316 runs in 12 games.

Mitchell McClenaghan says he couldn't sit still, kept moving up and down the stairs 15-16 times. With a gleeful smile he mentions Bumrah is exceptional and he's going to be a superstar.
Sachin Tendulkar says the first half wasn't exactly good but at half time, Mahela Jayawardene gave a nice speech which the team needed. Adds that they thought right and believed they could pull it off, which is most important. Further adds that they also bowled right and fielded right, which was great. When asked about Malinga's quality, he mentions he's always believed once a champion, always a champion and Malinga is a champion despite the season he's had.
Shane Bond says it was hard work, but was good to offer advice and the leaders did well. Applauds Bumrah and says he's a brilliant young bowler, only 23 years of age and he always steps up. Happily says he stood up on the biggest stage again.
Mahela Jayawardene says the senior guys especially showed a lot of character, patience and guts to finish over the line. Considering the wicket might play slow, they had experienced players to get the job done, hence the decision to bat first.
Vinay Kumar says it's really great and the team is doing really well. He says he got just a match this year but adds that he is pleased for the team. Reckons the plans and everything were executed to perfection which is a good thing.
Robin Singh says they talked inside at the innings break that if they can drag it out, they can do it. Is of the opinion that 130 was a good score and Bumrah's spell was magnificent. Says after Dhoni got out, it was a matter of not giving Smith much of the strike.
Ambati Rayudu says he couldn't do much today with the bat but that catch (of Steven Smith) will remain with him for a long time.
Nitish Rana says it was a team effort. States the top 3-4 batsmen have scored close to 300-400 runs so everybody has chipped in. Is happy with his good form but wants to carry it into the domestic season.
Parthiv Patel says he was batting really well throughout the season, especially in the Powerplay so he is disappointed to have missed out today. Goes on to say that it doesn't matter at the end of the day as the team's success is more important. Further adds they have defended low scores before on such a ground. Opines the wicket was very slow but Pune took the game to the end and tried their best. Feels they have played very good cricket throughout the tournament under pressure. Mentions dropped catches and missed run outs are part of the game but the important thing is that they won.
Karn Sharma says he didn't bowl well last season and thanks the Mumbai team management for backing him. Adds that the pitch was not easy to score on and their plan was to not give boundaries to Pune.
Lendl Simmons says they had runs on the board and there was scoreboard pressure on Pune. Further says that they bowled well and mentions they have match winners in their team who delivered. Adds it was a team effort and he is real happy about that.
Jasprit Bumrah says they kept on fighting from the first over and the ball reversing a bit helped him a lot. Also says that they were short of runs but had decided to fight it out till the end.
Mitchell Johnson says it all came down to experience in the final over. Adds that fortunately he was able to deliver tonight and credits his team for the all-round performance. When asked about Smith's dismissal, he says the batsman gave himself a little bit of room and hit it pretty good but it went straight to the fielder.
Krunal Pandya says when the wickets were falling at the other end he decided to play the full 20 overs and score as much as possible.
Hardik Pandya says he felt the game which they won against Delhi was a perfect example of a close game where they came together and played like champions. So he is happy they got it done again tonight.
Kieron Pollard says they played team cricket and the team has come together and won them the game. States they showed the character. Credits Krunal Pandya for battling well to keep them in the game.
11 runs were required off the last over and it was Mitchell Johnson who had the ball in his hand. He conceded a boundary off his first delivery but came back strongly with back-to-back wickets. One of them was that of the Pune skipper. And with 4 needed off the last ball, Johnson held his nerve and won the game for Mumbai by conceding just a couple. With this, Mumbai become the first team to win the Indian T20 League thrice!
After the Pune opener departed, Smith carried on and stitched some crucial partnerships with Dhoni and Tiwary. The Mumbai bowlers however kept it tight and never let the opposition run away with the game. Departure of MS Dhoni also proved to be a crucial point of the game. It was Bumrah who took his wicket and he was supported well by other bowlers as well.
What more could a fan ask for? Such a nail-biting encounter. It was a low-scoring affair but it had all the thrills in it. After winning the toss and opting to bat, Mumbai posted a total which seemed under par. Their bowlers started off perfectly by sending back the dangerous Tripathi early. However, Rahane capitalized on his dropped chance and added 54 runs for the second wicket with his skipper.

COMMENTARY

End of over

RPS129/8 (20.0 Ovs)

It would seem a relatively easy task for Pune, to chase down 130. They'll be a bit disappointed though as they gave away 37 runs in the last 3 overs. The wicket will get much slower and if Mumbai manage to scalp a couple of early wickets, we could certainly have a match on our hands. The Powerplay will be key for both teams. Let's see how it goes. Join us back in a short while for the chase.
Another excellent bowling performance from Pune. They came out and were right on the money from the start. Cramped the Mumbai batsmen for room in the Powerplay, got the wickets then and just kept at it. Krunal Pandya was the only one who provided any kind of resistance. He fell short of his fifty but his 50-run stand with Mitchell Johnson has given Mumbai something to bowl at.
19.6
Daniel Christian to Krunal Pandya, out, OUT! In the air... taken! Slower short delivery, Pandya looks to pull it away but gets a top edge. The ball goes high in the air and Rahane from deep mid-wicket, runs forward, settles under it and pouches it safely. Christian has his second and that's end of Krunal's superb fighting knock. MUMBAI FINISH ON 129/8!
50-run stand between Krunal and Johnson!

It's going to be a great contest tonight. It's going to be a challenge for Mumbai. They've lost all 3 games against their neighbours this season and they'll be itching to change that. What better chance than tonight? Who'll get the better of who in Hyderabad? Will Pune win their first ever title, or will Rohit Sharma and his men make history being the first team to win the Indian T20 League thrice? All will be revealed by the end of night. Hello and welcome, my friends, for what should be a truly phenomenal battle.
The 10th edition of the Indian T20 League will come to a close tonight. It's been a real roller coaster of a ride, bringing its moments of some lows with a lot of highs. Particularly for these two teams in question. It can't be largely argued that the two best teams in the tournament have made their way into the finals, choosing different paths of course. Mumbai broke their usual tradition of starting slow by winning 9 out of their first 11 games, while Pune after a rather poor start went on to win 9 out of their next 11.

End of over

RPS128/6 (20.0 Ovs)

So that's it from us! Mumbai are crowned the Indian T20 League Champions for the 3rd time and it's something they completely deserve. They were probably the most consistent team throughout the tournament and have been declared just winners. The team and its fans, are going to have a long night for sure. They should too! It's been a great season and we hope you enjoyed every bit of it. There will be a lot more matches coming our way, soon enough, so we hope you join us for all the action. Till then, goodbye, fellow humans. Be good and stay safe!
