Indian captain, Virat Kohli says the boys applied themselves really well as there were a few moments when they were in a spot of bother. Feels the valuable runs scored by Umesh Yadav towards the end of the first innings gave them a psychological advantage. Adds he's still pretty early into his captaincy stint and he keeps looking for advice. Says when wickets don't fall one has to be patient and has to stop the leaking of runs at that time. Feels all the sides are doing well all around the world and India are looking for runs from their tailenders too and even they have improved on this aspect since it becomes crucial for a result. Adds it's been a memorable Test match and credits New Zealand for the character they showed and feels it's going to be a competitive series.

New Zealand captain, Kane Williamson says there are lots of positives to take from this match but credits India for playing so well. Adds it would have been nice if his team had added more runs in the first innings. Says Ronchi and Santner were fantastic as they applied themselves really well on a turning deck. Adds they need to recover nicely and looks forward to another challenge.

Man of the Match, Ravindra Jadeja says he's very happy and he's delighted to do his role with the bat too. Adds that he wanted to give himself some time initially. Also says that the Duleep Trophy game helped him a lot. Further says he enjoyed his bowling. Feels the wicket was pretty slow in the first innings and the ball wasn't turning that much so they mixed the pace. Credits Ashwin as he's a brilliant bowler and congratulates him for his 200 wickets. Adds they talk about what to do next if the wickets are not coming.

With the pitch withering away and around four sessions to go, the home side was firmly in the driver's seat and it was just a matter of time before India cruised to victory. The Kiwi top order fell cheaply and Ashwin toppled them with his intriguing spell. The wicket of Williamson pushed the Kiwis further on the back foot but Ronchi and Santner were amazing with the bat and countered the Indian spinners with a mixture of caution and aggression. After Ronchi fell to Jadeja and missed out on a century, Shami struck with two quick wickets. Ashwin ran through the lower order and handed India a comprehensive victory. Ashwin ended up with 10 wickets in the match, becoming the joint second Indian with Harbhajan Singh, in terms of 10-fers in Tests.

From a good position, the Kiwis lost the plot on the third day and conceded a crucial lead of 56 runs. The home side then pressed forward, stamping its authority on the match. Vijay and Pujara were superb with the bat once again and helped India set a target of 434, almost drawing the curtains on the visiting side. The trio of Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi and Mark Craig tried hard but failed to trouble the Indian batsmen.

New Zealand replied on a positive note against the Indian bowlers. Tom Latham and Kane Williamson batted with grit and determination and didn't allow the Indian bowlers, especially the spinners to settle down. The Indians tried to get back in the game but rain intervened, thereby washing out the final session on Day 2. The next morning, Ashwin sent Latham and Williamson back to the hut and then the floodgates opened. From there on, the duo of Ashwin and Jadeja took center stage weaving their magic and ran through the lower middle order and tailenders in a jiffy. They shared 9 wickets between themselves with Jadeja taking a 5-for.

Earlier in the match, India batted well in the first innings to pile up a challenging score of 318 on the board. The Kiwis bowled well and applied pressure with their intelligent variations in lines and lengths but Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara batted superbly and notched up half centuries. Jadeja also played a handy knock down the order. Mitchell Santner was the standout bowler as he bowled craftily and took 3 wickets. Trent Boult was effective with the second new ball as he picked up three wickets.

A terrific all-round performance from India has led them to a thumping victory by a margin of 197 runs against the Kiwis. The visiting side fought bravely and acclimatized well to the conditions. Still, they failed to deny India a convincing victory as the home side was thoroughly brilliant and didn't put a wrong foot forward.

Watling couldn't do much as Shami got him out LBW. Craig was Shami's second victim as the pacer was bowling a beautiful spell. Mitchell Santner is batting extremely well though. The southpaw is using his aggression just at the right time with the bat as he's hammering the poor balls. He is batting on 57 but is losing partners now. Only thing which didn't go India's way was Ashwin's bowling. The offie couldn't control the run flow too. So New Zealand have just three wickets left and have two sessions to battle it out.
