Dean Elgarb Colin de Grandhomme 5 12 0 0 41.67
3.1
de Grandhomme to Elgar, OUT! GONE! Absolute misjudgment from Elgar and this is a dream start for NZ after losing the toss. Back of a length from outside off, angling in, Elgar shoulders arms and the ball nips back in off the seam to clip the off pole. Excellent delivery and the Kiwis are absolute elated.
Theunis de Bruync Tom Latham b Matt Henry 0 3 0 0 0
2.2
M Henry to de Bruyn, OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Henry sends the new boy packing. Back of a length outside off, a bit of extra bounce and subtle away movement as de Bruyn pushes hard at it. Gets an edge that flies to Latham who takes it at second slip just in front of Raval stationed at first slip. Early jolt for the Proteas.
Hashim Amlab Colin de Grandhomme 50 93 9 0 53.76
33.5
Grandhomme to H Amla, OUT! BOWLED 'EM! A peach from de Grandhomme and Amla has to walk back to the hut. The dream outswinger around middle, Amla looks to work it across the line but the ball shapes away late to disturb the middle stump. A huge wicket for the Kiwis as Hashim was looking in ominous touch.
JP Duminyc Jeetan Patel b Matt Henry 20 61 3 0 32.79
23.4
M Henry to Duminy, OUT! Top edge and gone! That's a good take in the deep as well! Henry bangs in a short ball on middle and off, it keeps climbing off the deck and Duminy goes after it. He swivels a touch early and ends up getting a top edge towards fine leg where Jeetan Patel moves a couple of steps to his left and takes it pretty casually. Jean-Paul Duminy has thrown it away after getting a start.
Faf du Plessis (C)c Tom Latham b Mitchell Santner 53 108 9 0 49.07
61.3
M Santner to du Plessis, OUT! Oh boy, that's a freakish catch from Tom Latham! Floated it up around off, du Plessis gets down to play the premeditated paddle scoop but Latham at short leg was aware it seems. Before the Protea skipper played, Latham moved to his right. The ball came exactly to him as he stretches his right hand out and it sticks. What judgement from Tom! Santner is a happy man as he removes the big fish in his very first over.
Temba Bavumac Jeet Raval b Matt Henry 29 49 4 0 59.18
48.4
Henry to T Bavuma, OUT! GONE! Much-needed breakthrough for the Kiwis as this partnership was shifting into top gear. Short ball from Henry and Bavuma goes for he pull stroke. Not in control and gets a top edge that goes straight to Raval at first slip. How many times to you see a top edge pull landing in the slips? Slightly funny ending to what was a promising knock from Bavuma.
Quinton de Kock (W)lbw b Neil Wagner 90 118 11 2 76.27
87.3
Wagner to Kock, OUT! NO TON FOR QUINTON! Second time in as many Tests that he has missed out on a century. Length ball angled in from off stump, late away swing and he misses the flick to be struck on the pads. A huge lbw appeal which is given instantly by the umpire. De Kock wastes no time to review it. Legal ball and there is no bat involved. Hawk Eye confirms the inevitable as the impact is in line and the ball is going to hit leg stump. The on-field call stays and de Kock has to go. Another impact knock from him.
Vernon Philanderc Tom Latham b Matt Henry 11 22 2 0 50
68.5
M Henry to V Philander, OUT! Edged and gone! Tom Latham is once again in the picture! Henry pitches it up around off, gets it to move away off the deck as Philander goes after it with a drive. A thick outside edge is induced and flies towards Latham at second slip who takes it to his right. Henry is just one scalp short of taking a 5-fer now!
Keshav Maharajc Bradley Watling b Neil Wagner 9 34 2 0 26.47
78.3
N Wagner to Maharaj, OUT! SUPERB BALL! Wagner finally has a wicket! He's had no luck so far and finally has some reward, with his trademark delivery. Well-directed bumper around off, Maharaj rises to fend but the ball keeps climbing on him and whizzes through to Watling off the glove. The appeal is instantaneous from the Kiwis and the umpire nods in approval. There was no doubt about that one.
Kagiso Rabadac Bradley Watling b Neil Wagner 34 31 6 1 109.68
89.2
Wagner to K Rabada, OUT! WAGNER WRAPS IT UP! Well-directed bouncer around off, Rabada hasn't backed away from the pull stroke throughout this innings and decides to have another go at a bumper. Gets a top edge that flies high up in the air and Watling does well to cover some yards backwards to his left to take the skier. Wagner finishes with three scalps as SA ARE BOWLED OUT FOR 314.

M Morkel to Latham, OUT! EXCELLENT FROM DE KOCK! Brillliant one-handed catch and South Africa finally break the dogged opening partnership. Length ball in the corridor of uncertainty, nipping away a touch as Latham pushes at it. Gets the nick that flies to de Kock who reacts sharply to dive full stretch to his left and sticks out his left glove to take the catch. Excellent stuff! Latham will be disappointed at wasting the start. 250th Test scalp for Morkel.
Jeet Ravalc Quinton de Kock b Morne Morkel 88 254 10 0 34.65
89.5
M Morkel to Raval, OUT! GONE! Heartbreak for Raval and he has to go. It's another Quinton de Kock special! The opener was totally into a shell over the last two hours or so and now has to walk back without his century. Back of a length outside off, nips in a touch as Raval pushes at it but gets a faint inside edge down the leg side. De Kock dives full length to his right to take another superb catch. Ends a marathon knock from Raval and a very fruitful 190-run stand.
Kane Williamson (C)c Vernon Philander b Morne Morkel 176 285 16 3 61.75
130.3
M Morkel to Williamson, OUT! Top edge... gone! Morne Morkel provides a breakthrough this morning for his side! Bangs in a short ball on middle, Williamson rocks back to pull but isn't quite in control of that one. Gets a top edge that goes flat towards fine leg where Philander comes forward and takes it. The Kiwi skipper walks back dejected but not before playing a classical knock. NZ lead by 67 runs! And BJ WATLING walks in next!
Neil Broomlbw b Kagiso Rabada 12 11 2 0 109.09
92.6
Rabada to Broom, OUT! LBW! Rabada gets his first! Hurls a length delivery outside off, gets it to nip back in sharply off the deck as Neil Broom decides to shoulder his arms only to he trapped on the pads. A loud appeal for LBW and it's given by the umpire. Broom walks towards his skipper and asks if he should take the review but Williamson says no. Replays show it to be clipping the top of off stump, so the umpire's call would have stayed. NZ trail by 21 runs!
Henry Nichollsc Quinton de Kock b Kagiso Rabada 0 1 0 0 0
94.1
K Rabada to Nicholls, OUT! Got him... yes gone! Henry Nicholls bags a golden duck! Rabada bowls a length delivery, down the leg side, not a wicket-taking delivery by any means. Nicholls looks to help it on its way down the leg side but gets a faint edge through to de Kock who completes the formality. They appeal but Henry doesn't wait, he starts to take the long way back to the pavilion. NZ now trail by 19 runs.
Mitchell Santnerc JP Duminy b Kagiso Rabada 41 151 5 0 27.15
138.2
K Rabada to Santner, OUT! Rabada removes Santner! Kagiso angles away a short of a length delivery, Santner hangs back and looks to push it away with minimal footwork. He gets an outside edge which travels very low towards gully but JP Duminy stationed there does extremely well to gobble it. Mind you, it wasn't an easy take but he made it look so. Mitchell Santner is stranded in his crease and eventually starts to walk as the bails come off - LUNCH ON DAY 4!
Bradley Watling (W)b Keshav Maharaj 24 63 3 0 38.1
151.4
K Maharaj to Watling, OUT! MAHARAJ FINALLY HAS A WICKET! Floats this just outside off, Watling charges down the track and gives himself room for the drive but misses it completely as the ball dips on him to crash into the stumps. Some relief for the left-arm spinner as it has been a really long toil. NZ lead by 129.
Colin de Grandhommec Quinton de Kock b Morne Morkel 57 70 5 2 81.43
162.1
Morkel to Grandhomme, OUT! Colin de Grandhomme walks! Morkel hurls a back of a length delivery, going down leg, de Grandhomme looks to pull it away but gets a bit of glove and de Kock behind the stumps moves to his left to take it. NEW ZEALAND BOWLED OUT FOR 489, LEAD BY 175! TEA ON DAY 4!
Matt Henryc Dean Elgar b Keshav Maharaj 12 17 2 0 70.59
157.3
K Maharaj to M Henry, OUT! Straight to the fielder! Maharaj gives it a nice loop around off, Henry comes down the track and looks to loft it over mid off. Didn't get enough meat behind it and ends up spooning it towards Dean Elgar at mid off who makes no mistake. Second one for Maharaj.
Jeetan Patelc Quinton de Kock b Kagiso Rabada 5 18 1 0 27.78
161.3
K Rabada to Patel, OUT! Edged and gone! Rabada making the impact straightaway with the new cherry! Short of a length delivery outside off, it keeps climbing as Patel has a tame push at it. Gets a faint edge through to de Kock who completes the regulation catch. Can Rabada wrap it up with a 5-fer?

de Grandhomme to Elgar, OUT! DE GRANDHOMME DRAWS FIRST BLOOD! Just the start NZ would have wanted after taking a big lead. Length ball angling in on fourth stump line, straightens after pitching with a hint of away shape as Elgar hangs his bat at it. Gets the nick that is well pouched by Watling behind the sticks. Elgar walks back disappointed, almost a replica of his first innings dismissal.
Theunis de Bruynrun out (Kane Williamson) 12 35 3 0 34.29

N Wagner to Amla, OUT! Run Out! Absolutely disastrous, this! On a length and around off, Amla punches it towards mid off and sets off. His partner de Bruyn at the other end was busy ball-watching as Amla scampers through for a single. Eventually he dashes into de Bruyn at the non-striker's end and falls down. Meanwhile, Williamson throws the ball at the striker's end where Watling fumbles but then immediately dislodges the bails. Theunis walks back with a forlorn face and NZ off to a flier here.
Hashim Amlac Colin de Grandhomme b Jeetan Patel 19 40 2 0 47.5
20.3
J Patel to Amla, OUT! GONE! This is a huge wicket for the Kiwis. Amla has to go. Nothing great about the delivery, pushed through quicker into the batsman from outside off, Amla was shaping for the cut but probably there was a bit of extra bounce. Gets an edge that goes off Watling's glove and is taken by de Grandhomme on the second attempt at first slip. The Kiwis are fired up, they know how big this wicket is. SA trail by 126 runs.
JP Duminyb Jeetan Patel 13 36 1 1 36.11

J Patel to Duminy, OUT! Timbaaaaaaaaaa! Jeetan Patel is ecstatic! South Africa are going nowhere here! Patel sends in a loopy delivery outside off, Duminy plants his front foot across and decides to leave it alone as he was playing for the turn there. But much to his dismay the ball straightens and it sneaks through the big gap between bat and pad to make Duminy hear the death rattle. A complete brain fade for JP here. SA still trail by 125!

M Henry to Bavuma, OUT! EDGED AND GONE! South Africa are falling like a pack of cards here. Fuller ball outside off, shaping away a touch, Bavuma tries to drive on the up without any footwork and gets a nick that is gobbled up by Watling behind the sticks. A wicket just after the break and the Kiwis are all over the Proteas at the moment. SA trail by 116.
