India innings

Batting R B 4s 6s SR
Prithvi Shawc & b Devendra Bishoo 134 154 19 0 87.01
50.2
Bishoo to Shaw, OUT! The debutant's fine show ends. Just moments before Tea. A nothing delivery, a nothing shot. Short ball, around off, Shaw goes back and looks to work it to the leg side. However, the ball stops on the pitch and now Prithvi looks to push it through the line. But he ends up chipping it tamely to Bishoo who takes it but so pulverized are the Windies that no one is celebrating. The Indians are silent too. Stunned, in fact. The way Prithvi was batting, it seemed like he was timing everything beautifully. A soft dismissal. Now, the entire crowd stands up like one to applaud. Well played, kid.
Lokesh Rahullbw b Shannon Gabriel 0 4 0 0 0
0.6
S Gabriel to Rahul, OUT! LBW! Waste of a review by Rahul. Gabriel has struck in the first over. Beauty of a delivery after a wasted first few balls. On a length outside off, Rahul puts in half a stride but fails to cover the line. The ball comes back in a long way and hits him flush on the pads. Gabriel appeals and appeals but umpire Ian Gould is not impressed. Eventually, after a long thought, he raises his finger. Rahul walks across to his partner, has a chat and then signals for the review. Bad choice. Hawk Eye shows the impact in line and the ball crashing into the middle and leg stumps. A blob for Rahul then. 5th overall in Tests but the second in his last 5 innings.
Cheteshwar Pujarac Shane Dowrich b Sherman Lewis 86 130 14 0 66.15
42.6
S Lewis to Pujara, OUT! Caught behind! A rare glorious moment for the Windies as they prize out the 206-run stand. But a big moment for the debutant. Nothing special on the delivery, but just a lapse in concentration from the batsman. A length ball outside off, could have been left alone but Pujara has a flirt at it. Perhaps he wants to rotate strike and get to the other end. But then, he realizes that he can let the ball go. That indecision costs him and a thin outside edge is produced. The keeper pouches it and the Windies appeal but Pujara is not going! Now Ian Gould raises his finger and sends him on his way. The home lad will feel disappointed on missing out on a century. It was there for the taking.
Virat Kohli (C)c Devendra Bishoo b Sherman Lewis 139 230 10 0 60.43
123.4
S Lewis to Kohli, OUT! The skipper departs. Against the run of play, pretty much like his other teammates. A length ball outside off, Kohli looks to work it through the off side but the ball sticks in the pitch. Similar to how Shaw got out. As a result, an edge is induced which lobs towards mid on. Simple catch for Devendra Bishoo over there. The bat turned in Kohli's hands as he looked to play that shot. End of another wonderful innings but I daresay, he was hardly noticed. The thunder was stolen by Rishabh Pant. Plenty of Windies players get across to congratulate the Indian captain, perhaps hoping that India will declare. But...
Ajinkya Rahanec Shane Dowrich b Roston Chase 41 92 5 0 44.57
83.3
R Chase to Rahane, OUT! There is some spike on the Snicko and Rahane has to walk back, another start wasted by him. Windies are delighted. They have got a wicket against the run of play. The move to not opt for the second new ball and continue with the old one has provided them a breakthrough. Chase is the one to break this 105-run stand. Not a delivery to brag about though. It's short and wide outside off, begging to be dispatched. Rahane obliges as he goes deep inside the crease with a square cut. But he fails to middle his shot and Dowrich immediately jumps in joy after collecting the ball. They appeal and the finger goes up. Rahane has a chat with his skipper who seldom says no to a DRS-taking opportunity. The replays roll in and Snicko puts everything to rest. Waste of a review, none left for India now. Now then, something that will worry Rahane. Three of his last four dismissals have come against the spinners. A chink in his armour?
Rishabh Pant (W)c Keemo Paul b Devendra Bishoo 92 84 8 4 109.52
108.1
D Bishoo to Pant, OUT! No century for Pant! Sad moment for his fans and himself too. He was in the mood to swing and did not try to curb it. Came down the track perhaps a bit too much in advance. Bishoo smartly tosses this wide outside off and Rishabh is foxed. Tries to go through and swings hard but gets a leading edge. Simple catch for backward point and Paul makes no mistake. A heartbreaking 92 for Pant - just 8 shy of what would have been consecutive Test tons. End of a terrific 133-run stand.
Ravindra Jadejanot out 100 132 5 5 75.76
Ravichandran Ashwinc Shane Dowrich b Devendra Bishoo 7 15 1 0 46.67
128.1
Bishoo to Ashwin, OUT! A cracking delivery this from the leggie. Bishoo keeps it just shorter of full length on off, Ashwin goes back to keep it out but the ball turns away and bounces. As a result, an outside edge is induced and Dowrich behind takes a good catch. Ashwin does not go and that prompts the Windies to appeal even vociferously. Even Ian Gould relieves them off their misery. Is the declaration coming soon now?
Kuldeep Yadavlbw b Devendra Bishoo 12 32 2 0 37.5
136.5
D Bishoo to Yadav, OUT! Bishoo gets another. His fourth, to be precise. Lands this outside off and gets it to spin into Kuldeep sharply. Yadav gets a long way across and looks to defend it off the back foot but misses it and gets rapped right in front of the off stump. An appeal from Bishoo and the umpire raises his finger. Kuldeep looks a bit surprised, perhaps thinking it will go down leg. However, Hawk Eye confirms it will hit the sticks.
Umesh Yadavc Sherman Lewis b Kraigg Brathwaite 22 24 0 2 91.67
143.6
K Brathwaite to Yadav, OUT! The 9th one is down. No declaration still. Fractionally short outside off, Umesh looks to go downtown but the power is not that great. Simple catch for Lewis at long off. A wicket for the skipper then.
Mohammed Shaminot out 2 6 0 0 33.33

West Indies innings

Batting R B 4s 6s SR
Kraigg Brathwaite (C)b Mohammed Shami 2 10 0 0 20
2.2
M Shami to K Brathwaite, OUT! The delivery is deemed legal and the Windies captain has to depart. Replays seemed touch and go and it felt as if the foot landed on the line. However... anyways. That takes nothing away from the delivery. This is the Shami we all know about. Not the one who bowled the first over. He lands this on a good length outside off and skids it on. Brathwaite is not sure - whether to play from the crease or go forward. Whether the ball will move in or move out. Eventually, he decides to play back, as the ball comes in. But he is late. The cherry shoots onto his pads, misses the bat and knocks the off stump out of the ground. What a sight for any fast bowler. Brathwaite is asked to wait and as the replays are shown, Kohli is seen nervous. On the line? Anything behind? Something behind, according to the one sitting upstairs. That's what matters.
Kieran Powelllbw b Mohammed Shami 1 6 0 0 16.67
4.1
Shami to Powell, OUT! One brings another and now Shami has two! The around the wicket angle has done the trick for the bowling side. Shami comes charging in and Powell, shuffles across his sticks. He misses his flick and is hit flush in front. Shami appeals and up goes Ian Gould's finger! Powell is ready to go back but then Hope calls him back and they decide to go for the review. Bad, bad call. Not from the umpire. But by the batsmen. Hit in line, going to hit the stumps.
Shai Hopeb Ravichandran Ashwin 10 22 2 0 45.45
9.2
Ashwin to S Hope, OUT! BOWLED! For a second, we felt that it was a play and a miss. It is indeed a play and a miss but the ball has missed the bat and hit the stump. Ashwin amongst the wickets now. Full and outside off, Hope comes half forward to defend but misses. The ball goes past the bat, misses his back pad as he looks to cover the line and then clips the bail over the off stump. Superb.
Shimron Hetmyerrun out (Ravindra Jadeja) 10 28 1 0 35.71
11.5
R Ashwin to Hetmyer, OUT! Confusion everywhere! Oh dear... a comedy of errors. First, a short ball. Hetmyer works it towards the leg side and initially sets off. Ambris responds but then Hetmyer changes his mind. Both batsmen are within handshaking distance of each other and then go back into the batting crease. Now, Ambris is frustrated and plonks his bat at the striker's end. Amidst all this, Jadeja has still not released the throw. Seeing that, Hetmyer starts to run. Jadeja still does not throw and Ashwin has already walked away from the stumps. At the last moment, Jaddu throws and luckily for him, it hits the stumps! He smiles but Kohli is not amused.
Sunil Ambrisc Ajinkya Rahane b Ravindra Jadeja 12 20 2 0 60
16.1
R Jadeja to Ambris, OUT! Strikes first ball! The magic of 'Sir' on display straightaway. Full and outside off, Ambris looks to drive it forcefully through the off side but he is not quite to the pitch of the ball. It spins away, takes the outside edge and Ajinkya Rahane at first slip takes a sharp catch. From Ambris' point of view, well, his policy might have been to attack Jadeja from the word go. But he could have waited a couple of balls and then tried his ploy. Half the side is back in just 16 overs.
Roston Chaseb Ravichandran Ashwin 53 79 8 0 67.09
43.2
R Ashwin to Chase, OUT! DRAGGED ON! beautiful bowling. Full and outside off, a touch wide, enticing the batsman to drive. Chase obliges, reaches out but then the ball spins in, takes the inside edge and hits the stumps. A watchful knock comes to an end.
Shane Dowrich (W)b Kuldeep Yadav 10 35 1 0 28.57
25.2
Yadav to S Dowrich, OUT! Right through! Kuldeep is amongst the wickets as well. Tossed up around off and outside, Dowrich looks to push it through the off side but is done in by the flight and pace. He misses and the ball spins right in, hitting the timber. This is similar to the way Kuldeep dismissed Peter Handscomb from Australia in the Dharamsala Test.
Keemo Paulc Cheteshwar Pujara b Umesh Yadav 47 49 7 2 95.92
38.4
U Yadav to Paul, OUT! Umesh has broken through! The dangerous Paul is dismissed, just 3 short of his maiden Test fifty. End of a wonderful knock. The bowler is also sensing it as for the first time in 7 wickets, we have seen someone celebrating or roaring. Clearly India were getting frustrated and are pumped up now. A short ball outside off, Paul instantly looks to pull. But the pace of Umesh does him in. He is not able to time his shot properly and the ball gently lobs towards mid-wicket. Cheteshwar Pujara comes running a few paces and takes a good catch. This is one thing which Shami missed this morning. He kept bowling full, full and full, searching for swing while Umesh has tried all sorts of things, eventually getting rewarded. As they say, change is the essence of life and Shami did not change his length much.
Devendra Bishoonot out 17 26 3 0 65.38
Sherman Lewisb Ravichandran Ashwin 0 3 0 0 0
43.5
Ashwin to S Lewis, OUT! That is a beauty and Ashwin has his third. After bowling two offies, setting the tail-ender up, he bowls a carrom ball. Too good for Lewis. He looks to defend but is squared up and the ball hits the off stump.
Shannon Gabrielst Rishabh Pant b Ravichandran Ashwin 1 10 0 0 10
47.6
R Ashwin to Gabriel, OUT! Easily stumped. The carrom ball becomes the undoing of Gabriel after playing out almost the whole over watchfully. The ball is tossed up outside off and Shannon is drawn forward to defend. He misses the line comprehensively and almost as a reflex action, his feet come out of the crease. He tries to get his left foot back but by that time Pant has whipped off the bails. It always looked out to the naked eye but Ian Gould at square leg did not want to take any chances. INDIA LEAD BY 468 AND HAVE ENFORCED THE FOLLOW-ON.

Kraigg Brathwaite (C)c Prithvi Shaw b Ravichandran Ashwin 10 30 2 0 33.33
7.6
R Ashwin to Brathwaite, OUT! That's the first one and Ashwin gets his man. Brathwaite looked to take him on in the previous ball and got lucky. This time Ashwin bowls it slower through the air and gets his reward. Tosses this one on middle and leg. Brathwaite looks to turn his bat to the on side but it goes to Shaw at short leg who takes a sharp catch.
Kieran Powellc Prithvi Shaw b Kuldeep Yadav 83 93 8 4 89.25
35.4
K Yadav to Powell, OUT! Edged and taken! MAIDEN TEST FIFER FOR KULDEEP! Number 6 is down and this one is of the set batsman - Powell. A beautiful ball. After the long hop on the previous ball, Kuldeep bowls this much fuller and the line is on the stumps. Kieran presses forward to defend but the ball spins away and goes straight off the face of the bat. Where? To the debutant standing at silly point. Prithvi Shaw is alert and takes it well. Fine knock from Powell, deserved a century.
Shai Hopelbw b Kuldeep Yadav 17 34 1 1 50
18.6
K Yadav to Hope, OUT! The 47-run stand is broken. Kuldeep Yadav it is and he gets his second of the match. Leg spinner pitched outside off, Hope goes onto his back foot and looks to work this to the on side. Gets beaten by the turn and is struck on his back leg. The Indians appeal and up goes the finger. This will give Yadav a lot of confidence.
Shimron Hetmyerc Lokesh Rahul b Kuldeep Yadav 11 11 0 1 100
22.1
K Yadav to S Hetmyer, OUT! Another one bites the dust. The Windies are wasting the decent start. They were 79/1 and now find themselves 97/3. They are playing positive cricket but are losing wickets. Kuldeep tosses this one on middle and leg, Hetmyer looks to goes on side but gets gets a leading edge towards point where Rahul takes a good low catch.
Sunil Ambrisst Rishabh Pant b Kuldeep Yadav 0 3 0 0 0
22.4
K Yadav to Ambris, OUT! Stumped! Oh dear. Oh dear. Oh dear. What on earth is happening? Poor Windies. This bloke has faced just 2 balls and he is jumped out on his third. Not even to the pitch of the ball. Misses. Pant doesn't. Ambris tries to go back but he is heading back to the dressing room instead. Pant is way too quick. He might have struggled to take catches but stumpings have been brilliant.
Roston Chasec Ravichandran Ashwin b Kuldeep Yadav 20 24 3 0 83.33
29.3
K Yadav to R Chase, OUT! Half the side down. Seems like someone has told them to get these runs today itself. Another loose shot. Full and outside off, Chase leans to drive but does not bother to keep it down. Lady Luck does not bother to keep him on the field. Straightforward catch to Ashwin at cover. Kuldeep cannot control his laughter. This is silly cricket.
Shane Dowrich (W)not out 16 64 1 0 25
Keemo Paulc Umesh Yadav b Ravindra Jadeja 15 15 2 1 100
40.4
R Jadeja to Paul, OUT! Another gift of a wicket. That Sunday holiday seems to be more inviting to the Windies than us. Tossed up outside off, Paul looks to add to the tally of the sixes of his team. But there is a man placed at long off. Straight to Umesh Yadav. Sigh. Really pitiable.
Devendra Bishooc Rishabh Pant b Ravichandran Ashwin 9 12 2 0 75
43.6
R Ashwin to Bishoo, OUT! Fantastic review from Pant and India! Windies are 8 down. The Indians are all smiles. Especially Ashwin. The keeper was the only person confident while the others were just joining in. Coming to the ball, it is down the leg side and Bishoo looks to sweep it fine. However, he misses. Now, Pant hears something and instantly appeals. For a second, I realize that age is catching up with me and my hearing senses are getting numb. But to my relief, none of my colleagues heard any sound either. But India put in a huge appeal while umpire Ian Gould shakes his head. Pant immediately urges Kohli to go for the review and his captain promptly agrees. Snickometer shows it in the first go. Terrific review though... wonder how come the others did not hear the noise? That includes me too. Anyways... TEA HAS BEEN TAKEN ON DAY 3.
Sherman Lewislbw b Ravindra Jadeja 4 15 1 0 26.67
48.6
R Jadeja to Lewis, OUT! Dead plumb. The strength of Jadeja is that he keeps his line straight. This is pitched around leg and Lewis attempts a wild slog. However, he misses as the ball spins away and is hit on the pad. Jadeja appeals and up goes the finger. Lewis does not even bother reviewing.
Shannon Gabrielc Kuldeep Yadav b Ravindra Jadeja 4 5 1 0 80
50.5
R Jadeja to Gabriel, OUT! That ends the Test match. Thank you for watching. India have earned their BIGGEST EVER WIN IN TEST CRICKET, in terms of runs. Full and on middle, Gabriel tries to repeat what he did on the third ball but this time there is a man near the ropes. Kuldeep Yadav is the man at the fence and he takes a decent catch. INDIA WIN BY AN INNINGS AND 272 RUNS!
