In reply to Australia’s tottery first innings total of 295, England got off to a wobbly start. Alastair Cook, the skipper, fell to Ryan Harris’ brilliance, but despite that, runs weren’t hard to come by. Mitchell Johnson looked nothing like the venomous, hostile pacer he was during the recent One-Day International (ODI) series against India. It was his rather subdued version who strode out to bowl on the second morning of the Brisbane Test. He sprayed the ball on both sides of the wicket, the length being far from consistent. The usually circumspect Michael Carberry, too, looked at ease against Johnson whenever the latter ran in with the cherry in his hand.
