Watch five great catches from the 2005 Ashes including Geraint Jones, Andrew Strauss, Ian Bell and Ashley Giles. The Ashes 2005 was one of the long-standing rivalries in the history of Test cricket between England and Australia. It was one of the hard-fought series between the two teams with both the teams going head to head in all aspects on the field. With the series being held in England, the English clearly had the home advantage and they won the series 2-1 of the five-match series. The BBC hailed the series as “the most thrilling series ever”, a couple of matches ended up on being a close call.

Recently, England again brought back memories from the historic 2005 win as they won the Ashes 2015 at their home once again by a 3-2 margin in the five-match series. “I knew this was a talent group of players, I think being huge underdogs at the start helped us, it allowed us to go and play with freedom. It’s an amazing achievement to beat this Australia side, so it has to rank right up there [with the best],” Cook said at the post-match presentation.

“It’s been strange at times, two-day Test matches, but very pleasing.” What are the lessons for the youngsters in the team? “Learning the hard game of Test cricket as young players, it’s good for the future. It’s exciting, there’ll be tough times but look forward to grabbing those moments in the future,” he added. “It’s been an interesting Test match, probably both sides have been a little bit off in terms of intensity, credit to Australia and their character to bounce back. You see how strong Australia were here, so to have beaten them three times – we played some really good cricket at times, the crowds have been absolutely amazing, so thanks to everyone,” he said again.
