Australia were helpless as factors beyond their control decided the outcome of the third Ashes Test. Constant rain on Day Five at Old Trafford ensured that England retained the Ashes with an unassailable 2-0 lead with only two matches to go. Yes time has flown and already we are beyond the half-way stage of the first leg of the Ashes 2013. Barley a few days back the third Test ended in the most forgettable of fashions and we are already near commencement of the fourth Test at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street.

This is the most unusual of venues for an Ashes Test. In fact, this is the first time the ground in Durham will be host to the oldest cricketing rivalry. It will also be the fifth-ever Test match to be played at this venue, with the last coming in May 2009. It is a little naïve to think that a more traditional venue like Headingley in Leeds was not used for some reason. England suffered a massive defeat at the venue the last time these two teams met in 2009. England have played four Tests in Chester-le-Street and there have been some big scores; though the opposition was not the strongest.
