Samaraweera was dismissed for 10 by Jackson Bird as the fourth wicket fell for the visitors with a score of 79 runs.
 
Earlier, Kumar Sangakkara (43 not out) joined an elite club of batsmen who have scored 10,000 or more runs in Test cricket as he carried Sri Lanka to a wobbly 79 for three at lunch on Day One of the Boxing Day Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

 
The former Sri Lanka captain provided the lone resistance from the visitors as Australia’s pacers ran through the top order.
