It is a move that is set to revolutionise Test cricket. The International Cricket Council has approved day-night Test matches – an idea that was floated for quite some time to draw the crowds to the classical format. The governing body also approved a number of changes in the playing conditions which would come into effect with the start of New Zealand’s tour to Sri Lanka.

About the day-night Tests, the ICC said, "Participating countries may agree to play day/night Test matches. The home and visiting boards will decide on the hours of play which will be six hours of scheduled play per day while the two boards will also decide on the precise brand, type and colour of ball to be used for the match."

A big talking point would be the ball that would be used for these games. The pink-ball has been tried on numerous occasions in the past and is yet to convince the authorities that it can be used for such games.
