In match 8 of the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2017, Australia thrashed Sri Lanka by 8 wickets chasing 258 with ease. Opting to bowl, defending champions ran through Sri Lanka’s lacklustre batting line-up but were kept at bay courtesy an unbeaten 178-run knock by opener Chamari Atapattu. She scored close to 70 per cent of the runs, but lack of wicket-taking deliveries hurt the Islanders in the match. Sri Lanka’s skipper, Inoka Ranaweera, was disappointed with the defeat, but stated that she was pleased with Atapattu’s efforts. She also took the defeat in good stride; claiming that they learned a lot as a unit against a quality line-up.
