Once regarded one of the top destinations for cricket in India, the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur had been left in the dark for quite some time. It was largely due administration's internal conflict.

However, the chairman of Kanpur Cricket Association Sanjay Kapoor has assured the state's cricket fans that steps are being taken for its rejuvenation to bring the glory days back in the city.
 
Kanpur last hosted an international match in November, 2009, between India and Sri Lanka. The stadium can accommodate around 40,000 spectators in its arena.
