It happened back in 2002 during India‘s tour of New Zealand. Richardson had just faced delivery from Ajit Agarkar, played it straight down the ground for a boundary. However, while going for the runs, after reaching the non-striker’s end, he imitated his action for a big swing in the air, but funnily the bat flung in the air only to land just a couple of meters away from the umpire, owing to which he immediately apologised.
