It was the last time Ponting had entered the cricket field after an illustrious 17-year career. The 37-year-old boasts of a record 168 Test appearances and more than 100 wins as captain. He has scored 41 centuries in this time, a record which is second only to India's Sachin Tendulkar.

Ponting got a thunderous ovation from the crowd on his departure for the last time. Earlier, when he walked in to bat, he also got a guard of honour from the South Africa team apart from a standing ovation from the crowd.
