South African all-rounder Ryan McLaren has defended his side’s decision to bowl first in the first Test against Australia at Centurion.

McLaren believes that a majority of teams in recent years have gone on to win Test matches bowling first and that is the reason why the Proteas opted to bowl first against the Aussies.

McLaren said that the Centurion wicket was a bit slowish and also maintained that South Africa had done well to restrict Australia to 90 for 4 at one stage of the game.

Mclaren also said that Shaun Marsh and Steve Smith’s twin tons were the reason Australia escaped from a certain batting disaster.
