Al-Jazeera’s sting operation has gain opened a can of problems for cricket. A documentary produced by the channel has showcased the darker side of the game that has always lurked in the shadows. In the documentary one can see former cricket players trying to fix arrange matches and/or situations with alleged fixers. The documentary not only talks about how playing conditions are fixed, but also details on how players are approached. So far all the concerned parties show in the documentary have declined any association with the source, and are looking out for legal actions.
International Cricket Council (ICC) are already investigating into the Gallegate episode. With more such revelations emerging from the documentary by the minute, it will be interesting to see how people’s perception about cricket remain in times to come.
