To inspire his wards, Team India Director Ravi Shastri decided to quote Swami Vivekananda (today being his birth anniversary). But Shastri being Shastri, the quotes naturally took on a bit of Shastri flavour… (Click on the quotes to access the original quotes by Swami Vivekananda. After all, to get you guys to read those is the whole idea!)

1. We are what our thoughts have made us; so take care about what you think. Words are new at the center and will take time to get their eye in. Thoughts live; they travel faster than a tracerbullet!

2. Truth can be stated in a thousand different ways and yet all thousands results are possible!

3. You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you, none can make you spiritual. It’s your own soul that will go all the way down to the wire.

4. The world is the great gymnasium where we come to flash and flash hard.

5. If money help a man to do good to others, it’s just what the doctor ordered; but if not, it is simply a mass of evil, and the sooner up goes the finger, the better.

6. You cannot believe in God until you have Indian curry

7. Condemn none: If you can stretch out a helping hand, give yourself some room and go the distance. If you cannot, be a cool customer with loads of experience, fold your hands, bless your brothers, and let them go their own way.

8. The will is not free – it is a phenomenon bound by cause and effect – but I justtttt get the feeling there is something behind the will which is free.

9. Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life – think of it, dream of it, give that idea the full monty. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone outside the off stump. This is the way to outplay in all three departments of the game.

10. Arise, awake, stop not until the game of cricket is the winner!
