England’s director of cricket Andrew Strauss, who resumed his partnership with captain and former batting partner Alastair Cook, is seeking hefty damages against some former cricketers and cricket fans around the globe. Strauss was mocked after he decided to do away with maverick cricketer Kevin Pietersen ahead of England’s home series against New Zealand and the Ashes 2015. The decision to not include one of England’s finest batsman did not go well with the cricket fraternity, and many including former cricketers joined the bandwagon to oppose Strauss’ decision. Strauss was hired by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) earlier this summer amid a tumultuous time as the team was coming off a massive embarrassment in ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, and had no real chance to win Ashes 2015. ECB created a new post for Strauss, whose joining seem to have worked wonders for England.

Pietersen was told by Strauss that there was no immediate future for him in England’s national cricket team as there were ‘massive trust issues’. It is a well-known fact that Pietersen had had his share of controversies. However, following his axing from the England team after their 0-5 drubbing in Australia in the Ashes 2013-14, Pietersen has done everything he could to prove he wanted to play for England again. Unfortunately he never received a positive response. ALSO READ: Kevin Pietersen: Facebook Wall

Strauss received a lot of flak for his decision to ignore the once-in-a-generation batsman. He was ridiculed on Twitter and other social media websites, and #StraussLogic had started trending. The cricket community on internet, including a few former cricketers, made fun of Strauss’ logic purely based on their interest and love for the game.

But now, with England managing to hold fort against New Zealand and regaining Ashes 2015, Strauss feels he stands vindicated. A few sources close to the ECB and the Director of Cricket, Strauss, tell that he has passed what could be termed as the biggest examination of his life.

A source told, “Strauss looks relieved. Like Cook, he also thought England stood no chance against New Zealand and Australia, but they have surprised themselves and everyone else. Strauss is happy that in the first two series the results have been favourable, and England have been able to make a recovery after the embarrassment that they had to go through in Australia in ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.”

The source added that the former England captain, who led his team to No. 1 Test ranking, felt ‘ransacked’ when the cricket fans and former cricketers made fun of his ‘vision’ a few months ago.  “It will not be wrong to say he felt betrayed and hurt after what the cricket community did on internet to him. He felt low on confidence. He thought he did wrong,” the source added.

“But we all know what men like Strauss are made of. They have steely resolve, and his presence in all matches in The Ashes rubbed off on the players. They saw their director battling all odds alone, and this inspired them,” he continued.

While it is not clear how much damage is being sought, one has to be careful if they have to make fun of former cricketers. ‘StraussLogic’ may have been another topic to make fun of, get entertained and carry on with their lives for many, but ECB does not seem to be in any mood of letting people off the hook.
