Birthday Special: Narendra Hirwani, the bespectacled, head-banded legspinner who made a stunning Test debut

Born October 18, 1968, Narendra Deepchand Hirwani will forever be remembered for a stunning and record-setting Test debut at the age of 19 against West Indies in Chennai, when he spun India to victory with match figures of 16/136.

A legspinner, Hirwani played 17 Tests and 18 ODIs for India and is an all-time first-class cricket great with truck loads of wickets across the country. He remained the bowling mainstay of Madhya Pradesh s Ranji Trophy team for close to two decades and served as a national selector post-retirement.
