The co-hosts of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, Australia were to face Bangladesh in their second game in Brisbane on Saturday. But owing to heavy showers in the city, the match was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
The match officials waited for about 5 hours before calling off the game around the cut-off time. Both Australia and Bangladesh share a point each. Australia now slots in at the second position while Bangladesh is at the third in the Pool A points table. New Zealand are placed at the top with three wins out of three matches.
The match was doubtful since morning considering the amount of rain Brisbane received in the morning before the match and over the week. The groundstaff still braved the rain and started putting up the advertisement boards but in vain. The outfield was wet that even a short game was not possible.
In the caricature above, Australian skipper Michael Clarke ‘hopes’ that they can have a match and his counterpart, Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza jokes that they can possibly have a game of ‘waterpolo’ with all the rain in the air.
Australia will rue the fact that they have lost the opportunity of gaining full points from the match while Bangladesh will be happy to get away with one point against an in-form team like Australia.
Bangladesh next play Sri Lanka on February 26 while Australia travel down to their co-hosts home venue to play New Zealand on February 28. ICC Cricket World Cup 2015: Full Coverage
