Sunrisers Hyderabad became the first team in the history of the storied tournament to qualify for the Indian Premier League Playoffs with just 12 points following Mumbai Indians’ clinical nine-wicket victory over a hapless Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday.

The last league game at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai was a must-win clash for two-time champions KKR, but they were absolutely blown away by a clinical MI.

SRH now join Mumbai Indians, who finish the league stage as table toppers followed by Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals in the knock-out stage of the tournament.

Both Hyderabad (+0.58) and Kolkata (+0.03) finished the league stage with 12 points, but the Orange Army progressing thanks to a better Net Run Rate (NRR).

Mumbai Indians will now face Chennai Super Kings in Qualifier 1 on May 7 (Tuesday) while Delhi Capitals will lock horns against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator on May 8 (Wednesday). The winner of Qualifier 1 will progress into the final while the loser will play against the winner of the Eliminator in Qualifier 2 on May 10 (Friday). The final is on May 12 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
