In one of the most shocking games of any major ICC tournament, Oman upset an experienced Ireland, as they beat them by two wickets in Group A Round 1, Match 4 of the ongoing ICC World T20 2016 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala on Wednesday. It was nothing short of a thriller, with the match taking seesaw turns throughout the match before Aamer Ali’s brilliance and some listless bowling and terrible fielding swung it in Oman’s way. The match produced some defining highlights from both sides. Ayush Gupta takes his time out and analyses a few of the most significant highlights of the match that allowed Oman to pull out a stunner. Gary Wilson’s important 38: Although it was not a low day for Ireland as most of the batsmen contributed decently with the bat, Wilson made a crucial 38, which allowed Ireland to put up a challenging 154. His innings came off 34 deliveries and included 5 boundaries. It was the highlight of the Irish batting as no batsman crossed the 30-run mark.

Ajay Lalcheta’s spell: Oman opened bowling with Lalcheta’s left-arm spin. He walked in at a remarkably slow pace and bowled probably slower, but he started with eight dot-balls, putting a stranglehold on proceedings. He finished with 4-1-24-0.

Munis Ansari’s healthy spell of 3 for 37: Seamer Ansari bowled finished with 4-0-37-3, not allowing Ireland get away. His spell included wickets of Wilson (38), Niall O’Brien (14) and Kevin O’Brien (11). LIVE CRICKET UPDATES: Ireland vs Oman, ICC World T20 2016, Group A Round 1, Match 5 at Dharamsala

Zeeshan Maqsood-Khawar Ali’s essential opening stand of 69: Oman openers Maqsood and Khawar allowed Oman to get off to an explosive start as both of them made sure that they play sensible cricket and build a good opening partnership. They added 69, allowing Oman to capitalise on their run chase and take advantage of the poor Irish bowling.

Jatinder Singh-Aamer Ali’s match-winning stand of 47: Although Oman went off to a good start, 5 quick wickets pushed them on the back-foot. Nevertheless, Jatinder and Aamer Ali put up a crucial match-winning stand of 47 runs for the sixth wicket that allowed Oman to settle down and bring them closer to the victory. Oman cricket: 5 players to watch out

Aamer Ali’s quickfire 32: Debutant Aamer Ali bludgeoned his way to 32 off just 17 deliveries with 5 boundaries and a six. He pulled with tremendous power and leg-glanced and steered the ball with equal ease, and eventually became the difference between the sides.

Max Sorensen’s final over: Though Tim Murtagh had conceded 20 in the 17th over, Kevin O’Brien and Boyd Rankin pulled things back for Ireland, leaving them to chase 14 off the last over. Then Sorensen started with a beamer that Aamer Ali guided past fine-leg for four. The free-hit resulted in a bye, but Lalcheta got a four off the next ball. Sorensen even dismissed Aamer Ali, but it was too late, for Niall O’Brien’s glitch in the penultimate ball cost Ireland the match.
