Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) notched up their seventh victory in nine games and are at the top of points table of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. In match 33, KKR beat Delhi Daredevils (DD) by 7 wickets at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Gautam Gambhir was awarded the Man of the Match for his fourth half-century this season. He stayed unbeaten on 71 off 52 inclusive of 11 fours. With the help of 108-run stand with Robin Uthappa, he helped his team chase down 161 in 16.2 overs. Samson goes traditional: Samson stays pinned at the crease. He does not generate much foot work. However, his head remains still with his eyes fixed on the ball. To make matters more demanding, he has an immaculate back-lift. All in all, his batsmanship is traditional. He applied the same in match 32. He hit 7 boundaries, boasting of an attractive strokeplay. Shreyas Iyer gets going: After missing a few games due to chickenpox, Iyer finally gets in the groove. He scored a 75-run stand with Samson. However, he fell short of his second half-century of this season by 3 runs.
Coulter-Nile continues his good form: Nathan Coulter-Nile took a spectacular three-wicket haul, dismissing the likes of Iyer, Rishabh Pant, and Chris Morris. All in all, he has taken 11 wickets at an average of 10.72.
Gambhir achieves milestones: Gambhir completed 4,000 in IPL and 6,000 runs in T20 cricket. He now has most runs (3,311) for an IPL captain, surpassing MS Dhoni. He stayed unbeaten on 71 and remained the owner of the Orange Cap.
Robin’s batsmanship: Along with his captain, Uthappa registered fourth hundred-plus stand. He scored his consecutive half-century, the first time since the 2014 edition. Uthappa has also hit the most sixes (17) in the ongoing season. Last year he had 15 sixes to his name.
Kagiso Rabada the only respite for Daredevils: Rabada picked up 2 for 20 amidst the KKR carnage. He knocked over Sunil Narine and Manish Pandey with absolute rippers.
KKR’s terrific death-bowling: The Knight Riders gave away only 20 runs in the last 4 overs. From 123 for 1, they restricted the Daredevils to a meagre 159 for 6.
