Mumbai lifted their 40th Ranji Trophy – one more than the 39 all other teams have managed between them. Abhishek Mukherjee looks back at a nutshell of the Ranji Trophy finals.
—
As Dharmendrasinh Jadeja snicked to Aditya Tare off Dhawal Kulkarni, Saurashtra were bowled out for a paltry 82 – resulting in a defeat by a whopping innings and 125 runs: it was an emphatic victory for Mumbai under Ajit Agarkar – their 40th Ranji Trophy title in all. Astoundingly, all other Ranji Trophy teams have managed only 39 trophy wins among themselves.
So who were the erstwhile champions over the years in the tournament that is approaching its 80th year? Who were their challengers in the finals? Where were the matches played? Who were the captains who have laid their hands on the most prestigious trophy in Indian domestic cricket? Let us have a look.
