At the Newlands Stadium, South Africa’s batting coach Ashwell Prince had never seen a faster day one strip with such “inconsistent bounce.” India bowler Mohammed Siraj may have bowled the stint of his life during the second Test on Wednesday.
Prince praised the Indian fast bowler Siraj for his 6 for 15, which resulted in Proteas being skittled out for 55 runs, saying, “He bowled one of his spells of his life.”
“That’s what you get if you combine that with two good bowlers in favorable conditions holding the new ball in their hands,” the former captain of South Africa remarked following the conclusion of Day 1 play.
He wasn’t subtle in his criticism of the song, either.
“Having been a coach here as well as having played a lot of cricket on this field, I have never witnessed the pitch being so rapid on day one. On day two, it frequently picks up pace,” Prince noted.
However, the bounce must be steady.
“The bounce seemed a touch off, in my opinion. Some balls have been seen to bounce steeply, while others have stayed low. On the first day, though, you don’t notice the seam movement. He remarked, “There were a lot of balls that flew from length and keepers took above their heads.
Prince also proposed the hypothesis that the character could have been impacted by the extensive building going on next to Newlands.
