During the 1962-63 tour of Australia, David Sheppard had a tough time in holding catches that came his way. He was clearly going through a crisis of confidence, which is not exactly unfamiliar in the world of sports.

The Englishman, it must be said, was also a Reverend. During the tour Down Under, a couple were due to have their first-born christened and hence the father of the child suggested to his wife to have Rev David Sheppard doing the christening.

The wife, reportedly was aghast. “No, please! He will drop the baby as well,” she is reported to have told her husband.
