Please note: This is a humorous piece – pure fiction.
Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni added more fuel to the intense speculation about his strained relationship with VVS Laxman, saying he was not invited for a late night party thrown by the retired cricketer at his residence.
Vincent Sunder assigns 10 possible reasons why Dhoni was not among the invitees to his house:
1. How can I invite someone who does not answer calls?
2. It was a dinner for eminent Test cricketers only. Excellent players of the shorter format weren’t invited.
3. Being a teetotaler I don’t serve liquor at home parties.
4. Shailaja and Sakshi don’t get along. Women, you know!
5. Boss, you know I never earned on endorsements, gave up money as icon player in IPL. My small apartment can only hold a handful of people at a time.
6. Sir, I cannot afford Dhoni’s appearance fees, again for above reason!
7. I was worried he may take away my simple motorcycle!
8. Gosh, I didn’t want to see another scene between Sehwag and Dhoni! Those dressing room dramas are enough for me!
9. Hey there was a chance he may make an Shahid Afridi out of me by convincing me to come out of retirement!
10. Don’t blame me! My inner voice never came up with him name as an invitee!
(Vincent Sunder aspired to play Test cricket, but had to struggle to play gully cricket! He managed a league side to title triumph in the KSCA tournaments. He was debarred from umpiring in the gully games after he once appealed vociferously for a caught-behind decision when officiating as an umpire! After two decades in the corporate sector, he became an entrepreneur with the objective of being able to see cricket matches on working days as well. Vincent gets his high from cricket books and cricket videos and discussing cricket)
