89% of Indian Twitter users are cricket fans!

Twitter India, TNS Singapore research show details of cricket fans who use Twitter during a cricket game ahead of the World Cup.

In today’s time, social media has captured the youth’s eye massively. Be it Facebook or Twitter or Google+ or even Instagram, the young mind is always involved with the new age media. Ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, Twitter India, Cricket Moments Study and TNS Singapore shared a research work which gives details of Twitter users of India during any cricket game. 74% of cricket fans in India using Twitter are under the age of 35 years which shows that social media is youth oriented.

The research also states that 89% of Indian Twitter users are cricket fans, a huge number. 84% of the tweeters are intending to follow the World Cup on Twitter. During the recently concluded India tour of Australia, 88% of tweeters followed the Test series using #AUSvsIND tag.

Twitter India through their research gathered some data for the upcoming World Cup and states that 54% of fans will tweets during the games while 68% will cheer their favourite teams and 64% will tweet when their favourite team wins. They also shared a data which shows that fans engage more during specific moments in a game. 64% will tweet when a player is caught or bowled out while 48% will tweet when someone gets injured.

Surprisingly, 95% of cricket fans follow a specific brand across major brand categories. Interestingly, 59% cricket fans follow brands if they provide match updates and 53% fans follow brands for discount or deals.
