The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) invited the Indian national hockey team to witness the live action between India and Bangladesh at Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday. This is the first occasion when BCCI has officially called a full national team of different sport to watch a match at a global event.
The Sardar Singh-led Indian hockey team is currently in Bangalore ahead of their Sultan Azlan Shah Trophy clash in Ipoh, Malaysia. Sardar confirmed that they have received an invitation from BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur to come up and cheer for the ‘Men in Blue’.
Sardar spoke to PTI saying, ““Yes, the invite came from the BCCI secretary. It has been a nice gesture on the part of the cricket board. We would be cheering the national team from the stands.”
It is believed that BCCI has also made arrangements for VIP tickets and transportation for the Indian hockey team. It is believed that the move was empowered by Thakur, as an official from Indian hockey team said on conditions of his identity not being revealed said, “Yes, the invite came from the BCCI secretary. It has been a nice gesture on the part of the cricket board. We would be cheering the national team from the stands.”
