New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum is playing his final Test against Australia at Christchurch after which he will call it a day from international cricket. He scripted history in his ultimate game as he slammed the fastest Test ton in the history of cricket which came in just 54 deliveries on Day 1.
McCullum overhauled Sir Vivian Richards record of 56-ball hundred against England in 1985-86 to stun the world with his maverick hitting. With this, he also brought up his 12th ton in Test cricket and it couldn’t have been a better occasion for him to do so. Playing in his record 101st Test match on a trot since debut, McCullum now also holds the record for most number of sixes in Test format when he plunderd his record 101st six.
Australia won the toss and elected to field first, New Zealand once again got off to a rocky start as they lost wickets early on in their innings. McCullum walked in at number five and bailed his team out of crisis with his explosive batting as he took on the likes of star studded Australian bowlers. His knock of 145 from just 79 deliveries included 21 boundaries and 6 sixes. He guided his team to a decent total of 370 in their first innings.
Australia at present are 50 for the loss of one wicket in the third session of Day 1 as the play is still on. Social media reacted to his blistering knock by McCullum, check the best of the tweets here:
