KC Cariappa grabbed the headlines in the 2015 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction when Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spent a whopping Rs 2.4 crore.

The 20-year-old Cariappa’s base price was Rs 10 lakh — a big ask considering that he was purchased for just Rs 25,000 a few months by Bijapur Bulls to play in the Karnatak Premier League.

“I don’t even know how many zeroes are there in two crores!” the stunned leggie said after the IPL auction that made him an instant crorepati. For any employee, a 30 or 40 percent salary hike in job makes them go over the moon. But Cariappa windfall meant that he got a 96,000 percent hike!
