They were fierce competitors on the field and great friends off it. The on-field rivalry between Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne was a great spectacle and one of the most talked about combats in the history of the sport. Now with their playing days behind, the two legends of the sport are planning to start a new Twenty20 competition for former international cricketers.
As reported by AFP, unconfirmed reports said that Tendulkar and Warne have offered 28 ex-players of repute, contract of US$ 25000 a match, with 15 T20 games planned for Cricket All Stars League over a 42-month period.
The Australian newspaper stated that the players contacted included former Australian stars Brett Lee, Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist and Glenn McGrath, along with Englishmen Michael Vaughan and Andrew Flintoff.
The newspaper stated: “Warne is in Britain but has been actively spruiking [promoting] the idea. He hinted this year that he and Tendulkar had formed a business that would be launching during the year.”
Lee’s manager Neil Maxwell confirmed that the fast bowler had received an offer to play in the Cricket All Stars League and would be seeking permission from Cricket Australia before committing.
It is also reported that the series of matches will be held around the world over a three-and-a-half-year period, with the United States to host the first series in September. New York, Los Angeles and Chicago may host the matches.
If this takes place, it is surely bound to be a treat for fans who will once again witness the stars from previous decade in action.
