In India, Bollywood and cricket sell like hot cakes. And when they come together, the union is simply incredible. IPL is a classic case, where Bollywood stars and cricketers came together on a single platform and produced a blockbuster tournament.
At the same time, their impact on each other is also astounding, as several movies have been made on cricket. However, barring the cricketers getting involved with actresses, cricket was largely untouched by Bollywood’s influence. But not anymore, as in a first, the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) has named its dog squad on Bollywood characters.
The 24-member dog squad that protects the MCA Stadium, has its members being named on famous Hindi movies and their characters. Some of the names include Zanjeer, Don, Veer, Prince and Lucky based on Hindi movies while Teja has been inspired by the Bollywood villain. A report in Mid-day quoted Kishore Nawar, the boss of the dog squad saying the names have been deliberately kept short so that they are easy for the trainers to call.
The squad, which comprises of dogs from six breeds namely Malinois, German Shepherd, Golden Retriever, Labrador, Doberman and Rottweiler, has helped the MCA avoid erecting metal barricades on the boundary, as they did not want any obstruction of view for the spectators. To curb indiscipline from the crowd, MCA came up with the idea of deploying these dogs near the gates and boundary line; not to scare the spectators, but to let them know they are being watched.
