The decision review system, widely reckoned as DRS, has been a topic of controversy for a long time in the cricket fraternity. Many questions have been raised on the accuracy and implementation of the system and on this occasion, there have been few changes in the system after the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) annual conference in Edinburgh witnessed the governing body introducing many changes to the existing operation. The conference ended on Saturday and one of the important decisions in the DRS was related to LBW Umpire’s Call. Also Read: Shikhar Dhawan enjoys a ‘flying’ auto-rickshaw ride with a friend

An ICC release said: “The size of the zone inside which half the ball needs to hit for a Not Out decision to be reversed to Out will increase, changing to a zone bordered by the outside of off and leg stumps, and the bottom of the bails (formerly the centre of off and leg stumps, and the bottom of the bails).”  Also Read: Anil Kumble makes bowlers bat at the preparatory camp

The modification in DRS will be in force from October 1 onwards. There were some other major alterations in the rule too including the one related to no-balls. The quarter-final game of the ICC 2015 World Cup between India and Bangladesh saw a major controversy being sparked when Rohit Sharma was adjudged not out when he was taken for surprise by a delivery which was later ruled illegitimate. The ICC seeks to know if the third umpire could use instant replays to call no-balls more precisely and trials for the same will be scheduled in next couple of months. Also Read: Watch India’s coach Anil Kumble sweating it out during practice session at Bengaluru

Recently, Saudi Arabia was elected as the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) 39th Associate Member when the Annual meeting of the governing council was in progress in Edinburgh.

Another change which also came into light was related to women’s cricket. They agreed to render their support towards the addition of women’s cricket event in the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Durban. The ICC will also put forward an application. The release said, “The ICC will now work closely with the Commonwealth Games Federation in order to ensure cricket’s inclusion on the program and to determine the specific tournament structure and qualification process that will be applied.”
