The original little-master of the game, Pakistan batting legend Hanif Mohammad celebrated his 81st birthday recently. The occasion was marked by a grand celebration in Karachi where four Pakistani skippers — Misbah Ul Haq, Azhar Ali, Younis Khan and Mohammad Hafeez were in attendance. The cynosure of the party though was the birthday cake, which hogged the limelight for its custom-made design. The cake, ordered by his daughter, resembled a green pitch with a bat, ball and a pair of pads and also mentioned Hanif’s highest Test and First-Class scores. There was a major goof-up in the scores though, with his best Test score reading 377 instead of actual 337. Hanif Mohammad’s career in pictures

The error notwithstanding, cake still gained praises from the guests for its design. The party was organised by Hanif’s wife Shamshed and was attended by family, close friends and relatives. Hanif’s highest scores are 337 in Tests against West Indies at Bridgetown in 1958 and 499 in First-Class for Karachi against Bhawalpur in 1959.
