ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 was the most watched event in India

Cricket and India walk hand in hand. One can undoubtedly say that cricket and India fans are two sides of the same coin. You just cannot separate the ardent and crazy Indian fanatics from other nation’s supporters. It became more evident when thousands of Indian fans visited to Australia and New Zealand to watch their loving team play in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.

The World Cup was a sizzling affair, which turned out to be the most watched event in the history of Indian television with a staggering 635 million viewers. The growing reach of the tournament, till the semi-finals stage, reached an exceptional 635 million with millions of Indians tuning in to watch the chartbuster cricketing event.

A record 309 million Indian supporters (TAM Panel CS4+ extrapolated to the universe using a standard conversion factor) watched India’s semi-final clash with Australia on their televisions, as the two battled out for a berth in the World Cup grand finale.

The India-Australia game was the most-watched cricket match of the mega event, more people watched it in compared to the high-voltage India-Pakistan group stage clash.

The World Cup for the very first time was broadcasted in six languages. The novel idea to broadcast became a blockbuster hit with Hindi and regional feeds contributing to 77 percent on the whole viewership.

“ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 has been an epic event in terms of scale, reach and following. With over 600 million viewers, largest aggregation of advertisers ever, and one of the most talked about marketing campaigns, this edition has validated that there is nothing bigger than the World Cup for Indian consumers,” said Uday Shankar, CEO of Star India in a report from Press Trust of India (PTI).
