India put up a brave show on a fast and bouncy track in the second Test against Australia at The Gabba in Brisbane, as they reached 311 for four at stumps.
Murali Vijay, who was out for 99 in the second innings of the Adelaide Test, made up for the disappointment as he scored his fifth century in Test cricket.
There were 83 overs bowled in the day because of Australia’s slow over rate. Both the teams made three changes to their side, as India won the toss and batted first.
India went in with Umesh Yadav, MS Dhoni and Ravichandran Ashwin in place of Mohammed Shami, Wriddhiman Saha and Karn Sharma. While Australia, brought in Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Shaun Marsh in place of Ryan Harris, Peter Siddle and Michael Clarke.
Mitchell Marsh limped off the field with a hamstring injury shortly after lunch, while Starc had to depart briefly soon due to the heat. He however returned later to pick up a sore side.
Vijay scored 144, hitting 20 fours, before he was dismissed by the man-of-the-match in Adelaide, Nathan Lyon. At stumps, Rahane was batting on 75, along with Rohit Sharma on 26.
Looking forward to the 2nd test at the Gabba- my favourite wicket in Aus with pace and bounce. Best wkt for stroke making:) #AUSvIND

It is only 920 at the Gabba and it feels like a Chennai afternoon. I am not exaggerating one bit. — Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) December 16, 2014
Interesting that India batting first. Suspect Australia would have wanted that too. But the heat will definitely be a factor.
